Age Divisions
GVYF offers 4 divisions of tackle football: 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U. Players are assigned to the proper division according to their age on 7/31/2024.
When
The season begins with the first practice on July 29th and ends with the championship games on October 26th.
Where
Games are held at Canyon View Park.
Practices
Practice locations vary by team.
Prior to the first game, teams may practice 5 times a week. After the first game, teams may only practice 4 days a week. A minimum of 1 practice per week must be non-padded.
For 8U, practices are limited to 1-1/2 hours and after the first game, teams may only practice 3 days per week.
Games
Games will be held primarily on Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm during the season dates above. Exceptions include one Wednesday night game depending on the number of teams in each division.
Equipment
GVYF provides helmet, shoulder pads, game jersey and mouth guard.
Players must provide football pants, cleats, and practice jersey.
Playing Time
The 8U division is non-competitive and at a minimum each player is required to play a minimum of one half on offense and one half on defense each game.
The 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions are competitive and there is no playing time requirement.
Roster Sizes
The maximum number of players per team is 25 for 10U, 12U, and 14U. For 8U the maximum number of players is 22.
The minimum number of players for any 10U, 12U, or 14U team is 20. For 8U, the minimum number of players is 17.
Frequently Asked Questions
What documentation is required to sign up?
You will need to provide a copy of your player's birth certificate and proof of school attendance for 6th through 8th grade. If your player does not attend a core D51 middle school, you will also need to provide proof of address.
What if my child is in high school but is still 14 years old?
Children that are enrolled in high school (Grade 9-12) are not eligible to participate regardless of their age.
What team will my child play on?
Teams are assigned based on age (as of 7/31/2024) and the middle school they attend. If your player does not attend a core D51 middle school, they will be assigned to a team based on your home address. Follow the link below to check your team boundary.
When will I hear from my child's coach?
Expect to hear from the coach one to two weeks before practices start.
What if the team in my area does not have enough players?
If a team fails to meet the minimum required players to safely participate, those players will be assigned to another team that is below the maximum. We will strive to keep players as close to their home boundary as we can.
What if the team in my area is full?
Once a team reaches the maximum number of players, players will begin to be assigned to a second team in that area. If the second team does not meet the minimum number of players required, they will be combined with another team that has not reached the maximum. What is the latest I can register?
Registrations will be accepted until August 16th.
Can I register now and pay the registration fee later?
We offer a payment plan that requires a 25% down payment. You will then be able to pay the remainder in up to three installments. However, in order to secure your roster spot on your assigned team, all registration fees must be paid in full by August 1st.
